About me

I was born in Chur (Switzerland) in 1975 and spent almost three decades living in a village located close to Chur. My educational path lead me from primary school and secondary school (8 years) through the 'gymnasium' (5 years) to a technical school for telecommunications and computer science (3 years), which I completed in autumn 1998 with an engineering degree (roughly equivalent to a Bachelor's degree). During the next five years I was working as a software engineer for an internet provider, mainly developing web applications.

From 1990 until 2000 I spent very much of my spare time writing software for the AMIGA computer platform. The most intensive period was the time between 1996 and 2000, when I was working on my most influential software projects.

In autumn 2003 I moved to Zurich in order to study physics at the University of Zurich. My interests in foundational questions concerning nature led me to specialize in theoretical physics. I did my Bachelor's Thesis in the area of General Relativity and my Master's Thesis in the area of String Theory.

At March 1st in 2009 I moved to Utrecht in the Netherlands to start working as a doctoral student in the Quantum Gravity group at the Utrecht University.
